Jon Smithers, Therapist

Physical therapy is a second career for me. I was inspired to become a therapist, following a terrible PT experience, after injuring my shoulder playing baseball at Johnson and Wales University. I spent 2 minutes with the orthopedic doctor before being hurried down the hall to PT, where I was thrown a home exercise plan and told to come back when I had learned it. In hindsight, I don’t recall even being formally evaluated by a therapist. That poor experience led me to pursue a career in physical therapy. I love helping people return to the quality of life and activities that they are passionate about. Restoring one’s ability to participate in their passions is extremely fulfilling and I’m grateful to have had that impact on many people throughout my career. With the exception of a stint in skilled nursing, I have worked primarily in the outpatient setting. I love working with athletes, particularly baseball players, to recover from injury and maximize their performance. In my free time, I love playing men’s amateur league baseball, riding my Harley, and playing with my 3 children. My go to dine out is chips and queso with margaritas as I love all things Mexican food.
