Carissa Melicharek, Therapist

Carissa graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bridgewater State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2013. There she was a 4 year starter and captain for the Women’s Varsity Field Hockey team. After spending several years as a Physical Therapist Aide in various outpatient clinics, Carissa decided to continue her education at New England Institute of Technology. She received her Associate’s Degree in the Physical Therapist Assistant program in September of 2017. Aside from her experience in the sports in a medical/orthopedic setting, Carissa has also worked at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in the acute care space. It was here Carissa developed her skills for restoring patient’s function post orthopedic surgery, respiratory and cardiac rehabilitation along with lymphedema management. Carissa has found her therapeutic niche in the form of a traditional Chinese medicine modality called Cupping Therapy. She’s observed young athletes with sports specific injuries and older patients with chronic pain alike, benefit from this ancient technique. Carissa quickly became a Certified Cupping Practitioner after experiencing the incredible benefits of the modality herself, and most recently completed RockTape’s Myofascial Cupping Practitioner Certification. After she became pregnant with her first child in 2020, Carissa further pursued a certification in pre/post natal training which specializes in fitness throughout pregnancy as well as fourth trimester recovery. In her free time, Carissa enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and 3 year old son, exercising and volunteering her efforts to assist veterans with charity work for organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project. She likes to live her personal and professional life by this quote, “Leave people better than you found them,” and looks forward to helping you achieve all of your rehabilitation goals!
